Evaluation question 4

My target demographic would be :
  • Males
  • 16+
  • working class
My magazine would appeal to a wide range of people but mainly teenage boys who enjoy the British rock genre of music. I would like to make my magazine as cheap as possible as this would allow more people to buy my publication regardless of social class as i feel that everyone has a right to enjoy music. The rock scene may often be described as masculine perhaps because of the themes that are often the subject of many songs (sex, drugs, violence) which is unlikely to attract a female audience. This does not mean to say that females who enjoy the rock genre would not purchase and enjoy this magazine.

The colloquial language used in the articles of the magazine will play a role in attracting younger readers such as teenagers as this will display the writers/editors understanding of youth culture in Britain and what will interest them. More formal language would not show a good understanding of the genre or fans as the language used by artist, fans and in songs from the genre are often colloquial and sometimes explicit.

Readers of my magazine are likely to be into similar hobbies to many other teens such as shopping, socialising and of course listening to music. It is important to try and fully understand our readership in order to show our comprehensive knowledge of the genre and fan base. They bands we feature, subjects we write about and even the adverts that we use are vital in creating an experience for our readers.

Adverts for baseball caps or large gold chains for example would be more suited for a hip-hop magazine than for a rock magazine where adverts for gig tickets and leather jackets would be more likely.
